Proficient in all aspects of this practice area, Mr. Gurrieri provides representation and counsel in matters related to divorce, child custody, parenting time, alimony, child support, equitable distribution of assets, pre-marital agreements, intra-marital agreements, post-divorce applications, palimony, paternity, change of residence outside of the state, domestic violence, adoptions, and civil unions. Specializing in high-net-worth cases, Mr. Gurrieri has handled approximately 1000 cases during his legal career, which began in 1972. He has substantial trial experience in both financial and non-financial issues related to family-law matters, and he uses his expertise to resolve disagreements and achieve favorable outcomes as amicably and expeditiously as possible.
During his career, Mr. Gurrieri has been appointed by Judges of the Superior Court to serve as a standing master (assistant to the Judge), guardian and guardian ad litem. He has also served on the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Ethics Panel, where he worked to adjudicate fee disputes between litigants and attorneys. In addition, Mr. Gurrieri has served as an arbitrator for the Superior Court’s Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel (MESP) since its inception nearly 40 years ago, during which time he has been recognized several times for his service.
While serving on the MESP, Mr. Gurrieri has thus far arbitrated over 750 cases, which has not only bolstered his experience, but has also given him the opportunity to assist couples in resolving their disputes quickly and cost-effectively. Mr. Gurrieri, who has held a Mediation certification since 1984, especially enjoys the rewards of providing services for those individuals who seek to resolve their marital disputes through mediation. He finds this work most gratifying, since it enables the parties to settle arguments, allay concerns, and come to agreements with minimal acrimony, stress, and expense. In fact, he has been asked by several family-law attorneys to serve as their client’s mediator in an effort to have their difficult cases resolved.
Throughout his career, Mr. Gurrieri has been a sought-after speaker who delivers presentations at various seminars as a means of public service. Mr. Gurrieri has appeared on Scotch Plains Public-Access television, where he presented on a number of different divorce topics.
While Mr. Gurrieri serves clients through the state, he appears most often in the Union, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, Bergen, Essex, Ocean, Hunterdon, and Passaic court systems. He has been both a Union County Bar Association member and New Jersey State Bar Association member for his entire legal career. A member of the Colonia Country Club since 1977, Mr. Gurrieri served on the club’s board of directors for thirteen years and as its president for two years. He presently resides in Mountainside and has been a lifelong resident of New Jersey.
